Heya'll. I've started a page a while ago, for the conversion of weapons from 3rd to 4e. Any suggestions are obviously going to be awesome to work on/with, and I await everyone's input!
Here's the link: 4e Weapons

(If it's possible to change the address of the new page, that'd be kinda nice too. It transformed while I was working on it.)

Forum category: The Gamer Dome Wiki / 4e House Rules Central
Forum thread: [Weapons]

To anyone who is interested, I added an "adventure seeds" section to the 'Thousand Mountains' project. Check 'em out and feel free to add any ideas you might have. Be as in-depth or brief as you want. I've basically put just short paragraphs to create the adventure hook/seed, but don't feel you have to follow my format.

I'm thinking these ideas could be specific to 'Thousand Mountains' or open for use in any campaign. If anyone has questions about what I might have been thinking as follow up to some my ideas (I have adventures forming in my head, but can't post everything in case my PCs check out the site), just message me and ask. I'm more than willing to share.
—-Chris

P.S.- I originally posted this in the 'suggestions' thread, but figured it was better suited here. So, yeah, I'm a cross-poster

Forum category: The Gamer Dome Wiki / Thousand Mountains
Forum thread: Intro and Questions

My group also went with the 4d6 - drop the lowest method. No re-rolling of ones though. Then again, we also roll 3 sets of scores and choose the best set (no mixing and matching, each set of scores stays together). I think the guys were pleased with their results (though one guy did have me roll a set of scores for him which turned out to be his best option).

Forum category: The Gamer Dome Wiki / 4e House Rules Central
Forum thread: [Ability Score Generation] Cary over from 3.5

For the "Thousand Mountains" project, I'd prefer people use the forums to suggest content. I have a 'suggestions' thread set up specifically for this. However, if someone wants to throw something in on a wiki page, just please mark it as suggested content. The best way to do this would be to put in bold SUGGESTED CONTENT before the material and END OF SUGGESTION at the end of it.
I'm open to people giving me ideas because I am creating this to use with my players and I want it to be a great game for them. However this is also why I prefer the forums, because if someone puts something out there that I plan on using but don't want the playert to know yhet, it will help keep it a surprise for them.
So, check out the project and let me know what you think

Forum category: The Gamer Dome Wiki / General Discussion
Forum thread: New Projects Open for Development?

Propagandroid, I sent you a private message last night basically saying what I'm going say here for everyone who reads the forums…

I like the idea of flagging stuff as 'suggested content' so that we know what's what. I think that can totally work. As I said to Prop in the private message, the suggestion thread was so that I could also keep really good ideas that people contributed a secret from my players until they were implemented in my games. It would be no good letting them know what horrible fates can befall them ahead fo time right? So either way should work pretty well as far as I'm concerned. I look forward to hearing what ideas people have for my little project and what they submit elsewhere that I can use to create a better game for my players.

Forum category: The Gamer Dome Wiki / Thousand Mountains
Forum thread: Intro and Questions

The maps that display on the pages for the Thousand Mountains project are smaller versions of the originals. I figure that would load easier for people. I then also uploaded the original sizes and those should be easier to read (as well as downloadable and zoomable). I don't think I had any places written in on the map I uploaded for Scourwind Valley.

are the uploaded files able to be downloaded? I'll have to check that…..

Forum category: The Gamer Dome Wiki / Scourwind Valley
Forum thread: [New Location] The Mill

No problems, Rauthik, I'll use the thread.

I'm not pressuring, but what if suggestions were flagged in some way, like:

SUGGESTED CONTENT or UNOFFICIAL CONTENT
The content…
END SUGGESTED CONTENT

That way people could see it on the wiki, but your players would know it was part of the wiki and not part of the actual setting? If you liked some content, you could just take the SUGGESTION tags off, change and move it…if you hated it, you could cut it out and put it on a "rejected content" page for other people to use or the author to reclaim?

Again, I'm not pushing, just throwing out ideas. Maybe people would feel more comfortable adding to projects if there was a way to flag their content so authors wouldn't feel abused but people could see and comment on their ideas at the wiki?

Forum category: The Gamer Dome Wiki / Thousand Mountains
Forum thread: Intro and Questions

First, I just want to say thanx for fixing my typo with the changes I made today (the whole tm: thing). I really appreciate all the support you've provided so far. I have to say, I'm loving this site.

Also, thanx for liking some of the ideas. By all means use whatever you want in your campaigns. That's the whole reason I'm posting it.

As for adding things, since I'm still working out a lot of ideas in my own head, I'd prefer that any stuff you want to add be put in the "suggestions" thread first. I'd hate to have you post something that conflicts with something I already have in mind but didn't post yet. I know this kind of goes against the whole wiki ideal, but this way it will cut down on any confusion. I plan on having my players sign up and post their characters when we start and they can check the wiki for background info on the world.

I just realized this should probably have been a personal message instead of posting it here…. hmm.. I'll have to message you later as well then. Sorry about that.

Forum category: The Gamer Dome Wiki / Thousand Mountains
Forum thread: Intro and Questions

Hello!

I'm another fan of Chatty. I'm investigating The Gamer Dome as a way to organize my gaming hacks. Right now I'm hacking Moldvay/Cook/Labyrinth Lord D&D. So far, my hacks have appeared on my blog (and one may appear in Fight On! #2) but they're not in an easy-to-find, searchable format. I was contemplating building a page to hold them, but if y'all have done all the ugly HTML for me, well, I'm lazy enough to jump on the bandwagon. ;)

I also love to peruse other people's work for inspiration, so a site like this is great for wasting time er, I mean, sparking off new ideas or finding new ways of tackling old challenges.

- Brian

Forum category: The Gamer Dome Wiki / Introductions
Forum thread: Tell us what brought you here.

I seem to be having a problem when editing content or posting on the forums. It seems that the text box goes off the side of the screen (and it's doing it now) so that I cannot see what I am typing. As I keep typing it does eventually go to the next line and I can see what I'm doing again, but I am constantly hitting 'preview' so that I can read what I wrote and fix any typos. This wouldn't be a problem normally but there is no scrollbar at the bottom of the screen to slide it over and see the full text box.

I am noticing, by the way, that the text box fits the screen nicely before I start typing, but once I start, it expands and the right side is off the screen. Anything we can do about this?

Forum category: The Gamer Dome Wiki / Meta
Forum thread: when editing or posting

How about, not so much a curse, but the mill houses the soul of an ancient druid? Perhaps he/she was killed (betrayed?) and in order to preserve their soul, Jackob bound it to the mill. Perhaps, then this long term condition has corrupted the druid and Jackob now uses the druid's power to have the mill produce so much more than it should, meanwhile, the druid is enraged at being used and seethes while looking for a way out. Jackob being the only thing keeping it all in check.

As for Toby and his wife, not sure. Maybe Jackob is secretly some sort of powerful sorcerer (or a rakshasa or some other planar being who can dominate minds) and he brought Toby there via a sort of geas/mind control. He could have found Toby on one of his yearly outings and figured the kid would be good to replace the previous miller (maybe even before said miller expired). Toby, however is unaware that he was controlled in his decision to come to Scourwind Valley, or perhaps he made a pact with the mysterious Jackob who came to his village and was promised some sort of power for coming there.

Any of that make sense or help you out?

Forum category: The Gamer Dome Wiki / Scourwind Valley
Forum thread: [New Location] The Mill

Hello All!
I'm working on my campaign setting for my upcoming 4e games and figured it would be a good thing to share with others out there. I'm going to encourage my players to sign up and post pages about their characters, but I would like to hear suggestions from fellow DMs about what I can add/change that would make for a better campaign. I'll start a 'suggestions' thread for people to post and I will also take private messages as well (can't have the PCs knowing everything, right?).
Also, I invite people to use what I post in their own personal campaigns (ideas, places, maps, entire setting, whatever) and I just ask that you post what you've used/done in either your own thread (and let me know, cause I'd like to read it) or in a thread I'll start called something like '1001 mountains and more' (or something equally cheesey… you'll know it when you see it). So, that all being said, feel free to check out my setting and give me feedback/advice/rants/raves/etc.

Enjoy!

Forum category: The Gamer Dome Wiki / Thousand Mountains
Forum thread: Intro and Questions

I've created a new location, but I'm uncertain how to finish off the idea. Jackob and the Mill are two sides of the same coin. Jackob is the keeper and the Mill is the monster.

So are Tobby and his wife in on the plot, or are they innocent bystanders - or worse - are Tobby and his wife some sort of echos of the people who've always run the place? Maybe illusions, or ghosts that show up whenever both the miller and his wife are dead. They relive the same life over, and over again.

I don't want it to be a curse. This is, somehow, the way it's supposed to be. But - what happens if the monster is set free? And how do you do that? Kill Jackob?

Forum category: The Gamer Dome Wiki / Scourwind Valley
Forum thread: [New Location] The Mill

Probably a combination of using footnotes to initially specify what type of content you want the group to work on (and maybe the direction in which things should go—asking specific questions, for example); and then moving on to new pages when/if the idea gets bigger than a footnote or two. Multiple footnotes (especially on a long page) would be hard to read, wouldn't it?

@Mikko. I really like the idea of a "needs development" or "to do" page. It doesn't have to be initially organized as anything else but a set of bullet points. But it could grow into a table of contents (of sorts) to the project as a whole.

Forum category: The Gamer Dome Wiki / General Discussion
Forum thread: How to mark content you want developed?

Do you think Footnoting would work?

You can check out an existing footnote over at Fallcrest Expansion. If you tagged it with your name before or after the note, then even multiple footnotes could go on a single piece of info without interrupting the text that much. Older questions and such could be deleted as they're answered in later footnotes.

Forum category: The Gamer Dome Wiki / General Discussion
Forum thread: How to mark content you want developed?

Howdy! I'm here because I love tinkering with game rules, character sheets and campaign settings. I'm kind of embarrassed to say that I have "restarter's disease." I'm never satisfied with what I've done, so I start again. And again. And again.

It seems like this place might be a good one to stick some of my stuff and to talk about it with other DMs, who can maybe give me some feedback.

The (limited) 4e information I've seen so far hasn't made me enthusiastic, but I do love E6, and Pathfinder is looking very good to me.

Propagandroid invited me to guest blog for him sometimes, though so far I've only done one rant post. Stay tuned for more rants posts from me in the future. He didn't exactly invite me to come to this part of his site, but I don't suppose he'll throw me out. :D

Forum category: The Gamer Dome Wiki / Introductions
Forum thread: Tell us what brought you here.

@Rauthik: Welcome aboard! Feel free to start a project for your stuff!

To start a project:

1. Edit the Sidebar. Copy the syntax already under Open Projects, and when you save that page, click on the link you created. It will take you to a blank page, which you can then save as your project homepage.
2. Edit the Top: NavBar. Go to the SiteMap and find Top Navbar, click on it and edit it to add your project to Open Projects.
3. I'll create a forum as soon as I see it and know what it's called. :)
4.
Micco,

Yeah, it looks like Wikidot doesn't have that stub-marking functionality, so for now the asterisks are going to have to do (although creating and linking to stub pages for every asterisk is a great idea! I wouldn't expect too much activity on it until after the books come out next week, but I agree that if you seed it with material it will help attract people to it.

Oh, I didn't add a description of it to the front page.
Fallcrest 4e "Implied Setting"

Fallcrest is the setting provided in the new D&D 4e DM's guide. It has a really nice skeleton of a locale to begin a new campaign around. I would like to start a collaborative project to develop that area (the Nentir Vale) by fleshing out the NPCs, buildings in town, villages, adventure sites, organizations and plot hooks.

If you could create the project, I'll begin populating it with the appropriate amount of detail so that others can start on individual projects. I think if we get a good structure going, a forum post or two on ENWorld will really get some traffic and interest.

My proposal is to go with RAW (rules as written) implied setting to ensure we have a common vision of how the world works. We won't change anything that is provided in the mini-setting, but we'll add to it while striving to keep the "feel" fairly consistent.

Any interest?

Forum category: The Gamer Dome Wiki / General Discussion
Forum thread: Interest in expanding the 4e "Fallcrest" area?

That would work fine. You could also create a stub page with "Needs Development" as the only content. But the asterisk serves to let people know without having to travel the link. I'm not sure about Wikidot, but Wikimedia marks stub pages in special context to show that the link it empty. If Wikidot does that then there is no need for the asterisk. An empty stub should be an indication that the creator isn't planning on developing it, but thinks more detail is needed.

Either way works for me.

Forum category: The Gamer Dome Wiki / General Discussion
Forum thread: How to mark content you want developed?

Hi all!

I heard about the site on ENWorld. Funny thing, I had just been thinking (minutes before, actually) that I should create a wiki site for theFallcrest "implied setting" area to jointly flesh it out with some people. It isn't often you can run the implied setting for D&D and have it interesting and novel, so for my 4e campaign I am just starting that's my plan. Since I'm one of the lucky 100 people with the early-shipped DM Guides from Buy.com, I've had a chance to look the Fallcrest area over and think it will be a really nice starting point for a POL campaign.

As far as credentials, I'm an "old-timer". First D&D was 1979 and I started DMing my own campaigns in 1980. I switched to GURPS for quite a while (with a smattering of HERO, some homebrew and even a little MERP, God help my soul…) Professionally I'm a just an average joe working a corporate job, but generally enjoying the challenges. I'm 44 and Roleplaying is one of my all-too-numerous hobbies that happens to include my teenage son (so I get 'father credits' for playing…woot!)

Micco

Forum category: The Gamer Dome Wiki / Introductions
Forum thread: Tell us what brought you here.

Hello all,
I heard about this wiki on both critical-hits.com and enworld.org.
I've been reading a lot of GM blogs lately, as I've been getting ready for 4e to come out and figured this would be a be great place to share/work on some of my ideas for my upcoming campaign. As I'm sure with everyone else, I create a lot of stuff that never sees the light of day in my games. I figure here I can put everything out there and people can take what they want (and I can also use their creations to better my games as well).
That's really it… As far as 'credentials'? I'm 34 and have been playing D&D (and other RPGs) since I was about 6 and have been DMing for about that long as well. Nothing professional, just a love of the game.
—-Chris (aka Rauthik)

Forum category: The Gamer Dome Wiki / Introductions
Forum thread: Tell us what brought you here.

Welcome ketherian!

I think the wiki is a good way to keep the creative juices flowing in between campaigns, and maybe you'll get some good feedback from the others. Feel free to start a thread here, or to start a project for your new campaign with whatever ideas you *do* have, personal house rules, etc.

Thanks for starting the comments off on Scourwind Valley, I think your comment idea is fine…as I may have said, I'm a wiki newbie myself, so I'm not sure what the best way to do things is.

Forum category: The Gamer Dome Wiki / Introductions
Forum thread: Tell us what brought you here.

Hi.
I read a lot of RSS feeds (about 1/2 of which seem to be GM blogs). I'm always interested in learning how other folks do things. I stumbled on the GamerDome via the Critical Hits blog. I'm in the process of gently closing down one game (running for over 12 years, with only 2 original players and two "newbees") and starting the planning process for another. I have 3-4 interested players. Problem is, I haven't settled on an idea for a campaign yet. I was hoping to come here, help out with some open projects and maybe spark some ideas of my own.

Forum category: The Gamer Dome Wiki / Introductions
Forum thread: Tell us what brought you here.

So, we can create custom sidebars on our pages using DIV, like so:

http://snippets.wikidot.com/code:extra-side-bar

But populating it correctly is another story. What I'd like to do is write or find a module that would populate a sidebar with every page displaying a certain tag. That way, any page tagged with Scourwind Valley would show up in the sidebar of all pages tagged with Scourwind Valley.

Maybe someone more experienced with Wikis can help me out with this one. :)

Forum category: The Gamer Dome Wiki / Meta
Forum thread: Sidebar
