Scourwind Valley Time Systems

The isolated folk of the valley do not use the same system for numbering days and years as the Great Empire. Instead time is referred to by the turns of the seasons and phases of the moon. For example the boy Char is eleven years old and was born in the autumn so he is referred to being eleven autumns. His older sister Mara was born in the spring years ago so she is fifteen springs. This is often confusing to the few visitors to the valley.

They have four celebrations each year, one for each season. It is during these celebrations that births are recognized, so that no one from the valley actually has a traditional birthday…and in fact, the idea is confusing to them.
